Relief Society Sisters

This is what they learned:

This little piggy went to market – Karen Kauer demonstrated some really cute homemade tablets made of items we would normally throw away. The front cover of one was from a jello box; the back cover from a macaroni box. Another one was made using old hardbound book covers. Another was made out of a cut up pop can wrapped in cardboard. They were all spiral bound and really cute. A fun, cost-effective idea you can make yourself.

This little piggy stayed home – Cathy Davis talked about how we can have a quality and peaceful home. Several items that she mentioned include: music, prayer, attending the temple and bringing the spirit home, spiritual pictures and decorations, scripture and Church magazines, family home evening, eating together as a family, father’s blessings, being prepared – food and finances, and wholesome family activities.

This little piggy had roast beef – Actually our piggy had pork. Teresa Anderson from the Egin Ward did a wonderful presentation on how to make egg rolls. She also showed us how to make shrimp wontons and jalapeno popper wontons. Also part of our snack treats were “pigs in a blanket.” Really, really yummy.

This little piggy had none – Christy Statham taught us how we can become “spiritually fed.” Some of her ideas included: temple attendance, attend Church and conferences, reading the Ensign and other Church books and material, and studying the scriptures. She passed out the handout “40 days closer to Christ” a Book of Mormon reading program found on the website http://www.lds-yw.com/40_days_closer_to_Christ.pdf. Other suggestions brought up were a Book of Mormon family game “Strive 4 Five,” listening to the Book of Mormon on CD, studying with “The Book of Mormon Made Easier” book by David J. Ridges, and dinnertime scripture reading.

This little piggy went “wee, wee, wee all the way home” Lynda Merrill taught us the steps to climb out of adversity. The steps went in the following order: Discouragement – Pray for strength – Don’t feel sorry for yourself – Accept adversity as a challenge – Take stock of what we have – Take action and grow – Happiness. By following these steps, we can go from discouragement to happiness through all the trials and challenges in our lives.

It was so much fun at Relief Society. Valeen and her board do such a great job making the meetings so interesting and informative. It is great to have sisters in the ward that so talented and willing to share what they know. Thanks to Teresa Anderson for sharing the Egg Rolls with us. I have never tried doing them because I thought that it was to hard, but thanks to her it will be a new menu item for us. Thanks again for all the hard work that the sisters do to make it such a great success. Sally
