G. Alice Owen I met a sister today ...

Today I had the delightful privilege to meet and chat with Sister B., by phone. She lives in Illinois, quite a distance from Newnan GA! We met because my sister lives there with her family and wants to attend services in their ward on Sunday. Amber and I shared our testimonies and she was so very encouraging to me!

I told her that my baptism was only a few weeks ago and that I know that Heavenly Father knew that one day I would come home to my pre-mortal family to share these latter… Continue

G. Alice Owen New Year thoughts

During the year of 2011, my life journey was full of twists and turns, dips and bumps and every now and again, a patch of straight and uneventful highway. That's nothing new in life's progress but I have learned over the years that the speed limit gets a little higher, the shoulder a bit deeper and the rest stops are a little further apart.

That being said, one of my favorite patches of road led me to my new church family at LDS. I am a new member to the Church of Jesus Christ of… Continue

Salli "It's Better to Have Loved and Lost"

Salli's Divorce Support Blog

Sometimes I wonder if people who haven't been divorced feel that those of us who have been somehow didn't make the correct choice in a marriage partner the first time around. I wonder if they believe we didn't follow the spirit when we were choosing our mate, or that we were not wise, or that we weren't living worthily at the time.

Personally, I was as deserving and striving for what is…

Susan Jennings President Uchdorf... "Forget Me Not"

What a wonderful Relief Society Meeting we were able to watch on Saturday night.  I loved President Uchtdorf's talk and how he used the Forget -Me -Not flower as a metaphor for his remarks. He reminded us that everyone has strengths and weaknesses- that no one is perfect, even those who may seem so.

He asked us to be patent with ourselves

Not to forget the difference between a good sacrifice and a foolish sacrifice

Forget not to be happy now.

Forget not the "Why"…

Susan Jennings "Let Me "Bear" Your Burdens"

I Love this quote:

"When you are sad.....I will dry your tears.

When you are scared.....I will comfort your fears

When you are worried.....I will give you hope

When you are confused.....I will help you cope.

And when you are lost.....and can't see the…

Salli Divorced? Keep Your Temple Recommend Shiny!

I hope all of you reading this blog have a temple recommend; if not, please devote your energies to becoming temple worthy and getting yourself to the temple. The temple is a place of peace and revelation--and you can't have enough of either of those in this life, as far as I'm concerned!

When I was newly divorced, I remember a particular interview I had with my bishop. He was sympathetic, helpful and, with his encouragement, painted a future for me that was bright and…

Salli Relax, LDS Divorced Parents

I was reading an entry in my journal the other day written during my former divorce days. I felt a keen responsibility to my children to set a good example, as I wrote:

"So many thoughts, so many areas of concern. I never anticipated that someday I would be a single parent in a home where the full burden of setting a good example to my kids, of living the gospel, would be on my shoulders alone. I so much want to set a pattern they can follow.

"I want them…

Carri Mason Courageously Moving Forward in Faith

I’m currently reading a book about Sister Hinckley. The more I read, the more I realize that she is someone I would like to emulate. Her attitude about accepting yourself for who you are and using your unique strengths and abilities to do the work of the Lord is inspiring to me.

Once time, after giving a presentation to the women of the church and then receiving a standing ovation, she expressed amazement at the response. Her husband said, “Marge, they loved you because you…

Connie Corwitt Grief

My nephew was recently murdered in Salt Lake City, UT on July 7th, 2011 at 12:07 A.M., and they haven't found the person who committed the crime. It was a very sad occasion, however, on the same day, my niece gave birth to a baby girl at 2:22 A.M. My sister is still very sad, as is the rest of family, including myself. I am aware that Heavenly Father called him back, but, I need some advice on how to console her, she is an inactive member, and does not understand why god took him back. I feel… Continue

Carri Mason Teaching Moments

This quote is applicable to both the teacher at church and the parent at home. It is a powerful reminder that we each have our own God-given agency:

"God's chief way of acting is by persuasion and patience and long-suffering, not by coercion and stark confrontation. He acts by gentle solicitation and by sweet enticement. He always acts with unfailing respect for the freedom and independence that we possess. He wants to help us and pleads for the chance to assist us, but he will not do… Continue

Salli Saints of the Latter-days

Ken and I hosted the awesome Single Adults in our ward last Monday night for FHE--I gave the lesson. I chose to discuss Benjamin De Hoyos April conference talk entitled: Called to Be Saints.

In his address, Elder De Hoyos makes a rather amazing assertion when he points out that the church bears the Savior's name, Jesus…

Carri Mason Member Missionary work: Friendship, Fun, Faith and Follow-Up

Here is some information used by the Columbine 7th Ward (Littleton, CO) who went from 0 to 17 baptisms in the first year of its use.

Salli Divorce and the Single Adult Program

LDS Divorce Support

When I was newly single, I recall when I first realized I was eligible to attend Single Adult activities--it was not a pleasant feeling!

I felt I was taking a step backwards in the church, having gone from a married-with-children status, to what I regarded as an inferior position as a single/divorced sister. I viewed the Single Adult Program as a consellation prize intended to formally…
